All :newstime programs from SAT.1, ProSieben, Kabel Eins and Joyn are produced in the new studio and broadcast from there. After the successful establishment and launch of its own newsroom and the introduction of the new umbrella brand :newstime, the move to the new studio marks a further milestone for ProSiebenSat.1. The studio complex is also the first area of the newly built company headquarters in Unterföhring to go into operation.
The new studio
The new :newstime studio is 220 square meters in size and is equipped with the latest technology: four fully automatic cameras, a 22-meter-long curved LED wall, three additional movable LED walls and automated lighting control offer maximum flexibility and a unique viewing experience.
We spoke to Sven Pietsch, Editor-in-Chief at ProSiebenSat.1, at the launch of the new news studio in Unterföhring:
Sven Pietsch
Editor-in-Chief ProSiebenSat.1
What does the launch of our news in the new studio mean for ProSiebenSat.1?
Sven: The launch in the new studio is a very important step for us and a signal that is both positive and important for news journalism in Germany. It once again underlines our claim and our self-image of providing people with up-to-date information – in an understandable, objective and non-judgmental way. With :newstime, ProSiebenSat.1 makes high-quality news and reliable information accessible to a broad audience on all platforms.
Setting up and launching your own newsroom was a mammoth project that took several years. Was it worth the effort?
Sven: Our society and media use have changed and we have to respond to this with our programme. In a society in which people often only get information in social network groups, we can offer a greater common denominator with our information. Where it says :newstime, there are facts in it. The brand is an absolutely reliable source of information for people – up-to-date, fast and on all platforms. We also want to provide a counterweight to disinformation and fake news.
What will be the next challenges for the ProSiebenSat.1 newsroom?
Sven: In general, it must be said that the current global political situation unfortunately does not allow any time to take a breather. We are watching what is happening very closely and are prepared for possible breaking news scenarios – although we do not wish for them, of course. The outstanding political event of the year is still ahead of us with the US election. We will accompany the election night live from Unterföhring and with comprehensive analyses and votes from the USA. For this purpose, we are on site with a large team of correspondents. Next year, among other things, the Bundestag election will be in our calendars.
News from our own hands – a chronology:
- In December 2020, ProSiebenSat.1 decides to produce the news for ProSieben, SAT.1 and Kabel Eins itself across all platforms at the beginning of 2023. For this purpose, a central newsroom will be set up at the main location in Unterföhring.
- On April 1, 2022, Arne Teetz will take over as head of the central newsroom. As the new editor-in-chief of news, he reports to Sven Pietsch, editor-in-chief of the broadcasting group.
- In October 2022, the new news team will be completely set up. Claudia von Brauchitsch is the new anchorwoman on SAT.1. With Karolin Kandler for ProSieben and Angela van Brakel for Kabel Eins, two more experienced news presenters are moving to Unterföhring. Marc Bator (SAT.1), Michael Marx (ProSieben) and Norbert Anwander (Kabel Eins) will remain in the news moderation team as before.
- On January 1, 2023, ProSiebenSat.1's own newsroom will produce the news formats itself for the first time and broadcast them live from the studio in Unterföhring.
- From June 19, 2023, all news programs on SAT.1, ProSieben and Kabel Eins will be called :newstime. Under the new joint umbrella brand, ProSiebenSat.1 bundles all news formats and platforms, in linear TV as well as in the digital sector and on Joyn.
- On September 30, 2024, the new news studio will celebrate its premiere on the New Campus, the group's new headquarters.
